Trevin Dorius scored a team-high 16 points with eight rebounds to lead Utah Valley to a 79-73 overtime road win over Sam Houston on Thursday night at Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville, Texas.

Utah Valley improves to a perfect 2-0 on the season, while Sam Houston falls to 1-1.Â

"These kinds of games make your blood pressure go through the roof," said Utah Valley head coach
Todd Phillips. "Our guys showed great resilience and stepped up and made some big shots down the stretch. We really defended and handled their (Sam Houston) pressure well. Our guys stepped up on the free throw line. Jaden was huge rebounding the ball as the smallest guy on the floor and then knocked down clutch free throws down the stretch."

Utah Valley and Sam Houston played through two ties and a pair of lead changes over the first 3:30 of the overtime period, playing to a 70-70 tie with 1:30 seconds to go.
K'mani Doughty then knocked down a three to give the Wolverines a 73-70 advantage with 59 seconds to go. Sam Houston's Davon Barnes responded right back from long range to tie the game back up, 73-73, with 44 seconds to go.Â

Utah Valley held the Bearkats scoreless over the final 44 seconds and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line to secure the 79-73 road win.

McClanahan connected on 4 of 10 shots from the field and hit 3 of 5 free throws for his career-high 11 points. The 5-foot-10 guard also pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds and dished out three assists with one block in 25 minutes of action.

Dorius knocked down 6 of 9 shots from the floor and went a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line for his 16 points. He also pulled down eight rebounds.

Doughty scored 15 points on a 4 of 8 clip from the field, including a clutch three-point bucket. He was a perfect 6 of 6 from the charity stripe. Doughty recorded three assists with two rebounds.

Caleb Stone-Carrawell scored 13 points on a 6 of 8 mark from the floor.
Nate Tshimanga was also in double figures with 10 points on an impressive 5 of 6 shooting. He also dished out four assists with three rebounds.Â

As a team, Utah Valley shot a 53.4 percent (31-58) clip from the field, including a 15.8 percent (3-19) mark from long range. UVU held Sam Houston to a 34.4 percent (21-61) mark with a 25.0 percent (6-24) clip from three-point range.

Utah Valley outrebounded the Bearkats 47-32 on the night. UVU had 16 assists on 31 made buckets.Â

Utah Valley now continues play on the road as the team travels to the Tar Heel State to take on Charlotte on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. (MT) at Halton Arena. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
