Wolverines welcome #21 Northern Colorado to Orem

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley wrestling returns home to host #21 Northern Colorado. The final home dual of the season marks the final home matches for No. 7 Demetrius Romero and Kainalu Estrella. The Wolverines and Bears will be on the mat at 6:00 p.m. MT with the match being streamed on Youtube.com/GoUVU and live results available via TrackWrestling.
 
Utah Valley lost last week at Wyoming 26-6 to the Cowboys. The Wolverines were led by (HM) Chase Trussell, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit with escapes in the first and second periods to tie the bout at 2-2, and later Trussell won the match after accumulating over one minute of riding time. 149-pounder Isaiah Delgado used an escape in the second period for the bout's only point to give Delgado a 1-0 victory over Warren Carr.
 
RANKED WOLVERINES
This week, Romero was the top-ranked wrestler for UVU after coming in at No. 7 in the InterMat Poll, with 197-pounder Evan Bockman coming in at 26. Both were ranked in the FloWrestling poll, with Romero sitting at 12, Bockman at 23, and Chase Trussell was an honorable mention by Flo.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Northern Colorado split a pair of duals last weekend. The Bears lost to North Dakota State 23-15 before traveling to Laramie on Sunday and defeating Wyoming 19-16. UNC features the No. 1 141-pounder Andrew Alirez, a three-time NCAA qualifier, and a 2022 Big 12 Champion. At 125, Stevo Poulin is No. 19 in the FloWrestling poll this week. 174-pounder Andrew Berreyesa was ranked No. 25 in the first NCAA Panel Rankings.
 
HISTORY VS. THE BEARS
UNC holds a narrow 13-9 series lead against UVU. The Bears won the last meeting In Greeley on Nov. 11, 2021, by a 19-15 final score. The last UVU victory in the series was a 20-16 victory in Orem during the 2019-2020 season. The previous three meetings have been decided by four points or less.  
 
TRAVELING TO TULSA
Tulsa, Oklahoma will host this year's Big 12 Tournament on March 4-5. The Tournament will run in four sessions.

Session 2 - Semifinal & Consolation Quarterfinal Matches - 4:00 p.m. MT
 
Sunday Mar. 5
Session 3 - Consolation Semifinal and Seventh Place Matches -  11:00 a.m. MT
Session 4 - Finals - 6:00 p.m. MT
 
The NCAA Championships return to the BOK Center on Mar. 16-18. It will mark the first time since 2014 the Tournament was held in Oklahoma when Oklahoma City hosted. It will be the first time that Tulsa has hosted the NCAA Wrestling Tournament.
 
Utah Valley will next compete in the Big 12 Championships on Mar. 4-5 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. Automatic bids to the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships will be on the line. The NCAA Championships will be held on Mar. 16-18 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
