INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA announced the bracket for the 2023 NCAA Championships on Mar. 16-18 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Utah Valley had three wrestlers earn automatic bids for the 33-man fields, and they will also see familiar foes in the opening round in Tulsa.
Demetrius Romero is the highest seed at No. 15 and will see a familiar foe in the first round in Oklahoma's Tate Picklo. It will be a rematch of a Big 12 quarterfinal, where Picklo edged out Romero by a 3-2 decision. The 2021 All-American will look to return to the podium in Tulsa, where he finished sixth. The tournament will mark Romero's fourth trip to Nationals.
In the 197-pound field,
Evan Bockman is seeded No. 20 and will match up with Yonger Bastida from Iowa State. He is 1-2 this year in three previous matches, including two in last week's Big 12 Conference Tournament. Bastida won in dual action in Orem and won the quarterfinal match by a 9-5 decision before Bockman rallied to win in the seventh-place match by a 3-2 decision.
Isaiah Delgado is the No. 33 in the 149-pound bracket. To start the tournament, he will meet Anthony White (Rutgers) in the pigtail rounds. In the lone matchup this season, White defeated Delgado by a 6-2 decision at the Roadrunner Open.
The 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships will be held at the BOK Center and will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.
