UVU signs BYU Transfer Amanda Barcello

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University women's basketball head coach Dan Nielson has announced the addition of West Coach Conference All-Freshman Team selection and BYU transfer Amanda Barcello to the roster.  The 5-foot-11-inch Barcello, who is from Chandler, Arizona, spent her first two seasons at BYU in Provo, which included a redshirt season in 2021-22.

"We are ecstatic to have Amanda join the Wolverine family," said Nielson. "She is a long, athletic guard who can score in several ways and her basketball IQ makes her a perfect fit for us on both ends of the floor. I can't wait for our fans to see her on the court next year!"

In her first season on the floor, Barcello played in all 32 games and made seven starts for the Cougars, averaging 2.2 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. She set her season-high with 12 points against Oklahoma, going 4-for-5 from the 3-point line in the contest.

Barcello attended Seton Catholic High School where she helped lead the team to a 4A State Championship in Arizona. She comes from a basketball family with two of her sisters also playing collegiately, and her brother, Alex, played at Arizona and BYU.

She's part of a signing class that will join the program for the 2023-24 season and has three seasons of eligibility remaining. Barcello joins Israeli guard Noga Haran, whose signing Nielson announced earlier this week.
