ARLINGTON, Texas — The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced the 2023 Academic All-WAC honorees for spring sports, along with freshmen and transfer student-athletes from all 2022-23 conference sports, on Tuesday. Utah Valley placed a total of 127 student-athletes on the Academic All-WAC teams.
To be eligible for Academic All-WAC recognition, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
Grand Canyon led the way with 145 honorees. Utah Valley was second with 127 honorees and California Baptist was third with 102.
Among the spring sports, women's track and field had the most honorees with 39, followed by men's track and field with 25. Baseball placed 19 on the Academic All-WAC team and softball earned 10 honorees. Men's and women's golf had four and seven honorees respectively.
A total of 23 freshmen and transfers were also honored from fall and winter sports teams. Women's indoor track and field earned six spots on the Academic All-WAC team, followed by five from both men's soccer and men's indoor track and field. Women's cross country placed three and women's soccer and women's basketball each placed two.
Utah Valley led the WAC with a total of 239 Academic All-WAC recipients during the 2022-23 academic year. The Wolverines had 54 fall and 58 winter sport recipients.
