HONOLULU—
Faith Webber scored in the 59th minute to help Utah Valley secure a 1-1 draw on the road against Hawaii on Thursday night in the team's season opener at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Â
"Unfortunately, we just didn't put away some really good chances," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "I've got nothing but credit for Hawaii. They were committed and wanted to compete. There were times where we looked great and other times when we looked a little lethargic. Hawaii caught us in a counterattack late in the match and capitalized on it. We'll get rested and ready for Sunday and hopefully we can get a better result."
Â
The Wolverines scored in the 59th minute after
Ruby Hladek broke free from a pair of Hawaii defenders and fired the ball towards the goal where Webber one-touched it into the back of the net for the score.
Â
Hawaii responded in the 84th minute with a goal from Amber Gilbert to tie the game at 1-1 and secure the draw.Â
Â
Utah Valley outshot Hawaii 11-10, including a 7-5 advantage on shots on goal. Webber led the Wolverines with four shots, including two on frame.
Heather Stainbrook had two shots, while Hladek,
Hannah Lee,
Sydney Bushman, and
Manthy Brady each had one.Â
Â
The Wolverines had four corner kicks to UH's one.Â
Â
Idalia Serrano played all 90 minutes in the box for Utah Valley, recording four saves on the night.Â
