SALT LAKE CITY—Despite outshooting the Utes 11-10 on the night, Utah Valley could not find the back of the net in a 5-0 road loss at Utah on Wednesday night at Ute Field in Salt Lake City.

Utah Valley falls to 2-2-1 overall with the setback, while Utah improves to 3-1-1.Â

"They scored five and we scored zero," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We're obviously not happy with the result. With that being said, I still think there were things we can take out of this game from a positive standpoint. There are plenty of growth opportunities for us. It's not the way I envisioned this evening going but we're going to leave it here and get prepared for obviously one of the best teams in the country on Saturday night at home against BYU."

Utah scored early as Kelly Bullock put the ball across the line in just the third minute to give the Utes a 1-0 lead.Â

The Utes took a 2-0 advantage in the 18th minute after Taliana Kaufusi found the back of the net. Utah scored its third goal of the first half in the 30th minute as Kyla Jennings scored to give the Utes a 3-0 lead.

Kaufusi had a break away opportunity in the 49th minute and Utah Valley was called for a red card in the box. The Utes were awarded a penalty kick and capitalized to give Utah a 4-0 lead in the 49th.Â

Utah Valley outshot Utah 11-10 on the night with seven shots on frame. The Wolverines had eight corner kick opportunities while holding Utah without a corner on the night.
Faith Webber and
Sadie Beardall led the Wolverines with three shots apiece.
Manthy Brady helped with two shots.

Idalia Serrano and
Leah Wolf split time in the box. Serrano had one save while Wolf recorded three.Â

Utah Valley now travels back to Orem to take on in-state rival and seventh-ranked BYU on Saturday night at Clyde Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
