CORVALLIS, Ore. — Alejandro Silva scored a spectacular free kick in the final seconds of the first half, but the Utah Valley men's soccer team could not find the back of the net again, falling 4-1 on the road to the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis.
Landon Carter had five saves on the night, but the defense in front of him did little to help Carter save the other four. Turnovers in the defensive half and poor clearances helped the Beavers put nine shots on frame, compared to just two for the Wolverines.
Logan Farrington netted a brace for the Beavers, including what proved to be the game-winner in the 22nd minute. Turner Humphrey and Arnau Farnos also scored for OSU in the 42nd and 50th minutes respectively.
Silva converted a free kick from just outside the penalty area in the 45th minute. Michele Signorelli was fouled on the right-hand edge of the 18 to give Utah Valley the free kick. Silva then stepped up and curled an untouchable ball up and over the wall into the top-right corner of the net.
Utah Valley out-shot Oregon State 10-7 in the second half, but only were able to put one on frame off the foot of Trevor Walk in the 78th minute.
The Wolverines will look to right the ship on Monday when they face the No. 6 Portland Pilots. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. MDT and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
