RIVERSIDE, California—
Faith Webber scored her 10th goal of the season to help lead Utah Valley to a 1-1 draw on the road against California Baptist in the team's Western Athletic Conference opener at CBU Soccer Stadium in Riverside, California.
Utah Valley moves its record to 3-3-4 overall and 0-0-1 in WAC play. The tie is the third straight draw for the Wolverines. UVU now owns a four-match unbeaten streak. California Baptist is now 5-1-4 overall and 0-0-1 in league play.
"I'm not at all happy with our performance," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We played at a seven out of 10 tonight and that's not enough to get a result from a good WAC team. We'll regroup and reorganize and get ready for an extremely talented Grand Canyon team on Sunday."
Utah Valley took an early 1-0 lead after
Ruby Hladek sent a ball to Webber on the left side. Webber settled it and fired a shot over the CBU keeper and into the back of the net in the 11th minute. The goal is Webber's 10th of the season, which ranks her in the top 10 nationally.
CBU's Kaylee Hauck scored the equalizer in the 21st minute to secure the 1-1 draw as both teams could not find the go-ahead goal in the second half.
UVU and CBU each had 11 shots on the night with the Wolverines holding a 5-4 advantage on frame. UVU had five corner kicks to CBU's four.
Heather Stainbrook led UVU with three shots with one on frame.
Sydney Bushman had two shots, while Webber, Hladek, Brady Manthy,
Ashley Hughes, and
Elle Young each had one.
CJ Graham led UVU in goal with three saves.
Utah Valley will continue WAC road play against Grand Canyon on Sunday afternoon in Phoenix. The match will kickoff at 2 p.m. (MT). The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
