OREM, Utah – Utah Valley wrestling head coach Greg Williams has announced the 2023-2024 schedule. The Wolverines will host four Big 12 duals as Wyoming, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, and California Baptist will all enter Lockhart Arena this year.
"We are excited with the schedule this year. The Big 12 duals will always be high-level, with most of the teams ranked. Many of the matchups will provide several ranked wrestlers for us to compete against. The pre-season tournaments at Virginia Tech and U of Penn, along with the Cliff Keen Invitational, will provide all our starters many opportunities to battle against top-ranked opponents," said UVU head coach Greg Williams.
Utah Valley will have the annual Green and Black match on Oct. 28 at 6:00 p.m. MT to give the public their first look at the 2023-2024 Wolverines. The opening season tournament will be on Nov 4 at the Southeast Open, formerly the Hokie Open, in Salem, Va. UVU will make their second trip to the East Coast with a dual against American University on Nov. 17 before the Keystone Open on Nov. 19.
The month of December will feature two tournaments to help UVU prepare for Big 12 duals, with the first tournament being the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational Dec. 1-2, and the Reno Tournament of Champions will close out in December.
The first three Big 12 duals in January will feature a trip to Ames to take on Iowa State on Jan. 12 before facing Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls on Jan. 13. Utah Valley will return home for their first home dual on Jan. 20 when they welcome in Wyoming.
UVU will start the month of February by hosting North Dakota State and South Dakota State Feb. 2-3. The Wolverines will travel to Colorado the following week for a pair of duals at Air Force on Feb. 9 and Northern Colorado on Feb. 10. The regular season concludes by hosting California Baptist in Orem on Feb. 24.
Utah Valley will send non-starters and Redshirts to a handful of tournaments this year beginning on Nov. 5 with the Rookie Open in Golden, Colo. They will head to Spokane on Nov. 19 for the Spokane Open. The final two tournaments will be the Cowboy Open on Feb. 17 and the National Collegiate Open on Feb. 25
The 2024 Big 12 Championships will be held Mar. 7-8 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. The T-Mobile Center will host the 2024 NCAA Championships Mar. 21-23 in Kansas City, Mo.
Williams said, "Our top guys will be mainly sophomores and juniors this season. They are mature and ready to show their improvement and capabilities. This schedule will definitely prepare our guys for success in the postseason."
