OREM, Utah – Utah Valley women's volleyball fell to UT Arlington 3-0 (16-25, 21-25, 19-25) on Saturday afternoon inside Lockhart Arena. UTA (13-4, 2-2) out hit Utah Valley (4-11, 1-3) .240 to .111 in the match. Setter
Abbie Medeiros had her 100
th career service ace in the loss and is now seventh all-time in aces.
Tori Ellis had a match-high ten kills in the defeat.
Utah Valley led 9-7 in the opening set following kills from
Hailey Cuff and
Avery Shewell before UTA used an 8-1 run to come back and take a 15-10 lead and went on a second run of 7-0 to pull away in the opening set for 25-16 win.
Both teams went on runs in the second set, with Utah Valley taking advantage of four UTA attack errors to jump out to a 4-2 lead. The Mavericks took their first lead at 6-4 following their own 4-0 run. After the teams traded points, UTA clinging to a 10-9 lead, they would go on a 6-2 run to make it 16-11. UVU fought right back with kills from Shewell and Ellis and a pair of attack errors to make it 16-15. UT Arlington looked to pull going up 22-17, and later won the set at 25-22.
Kendra Nock had five block assists to tally 264 for her career, and she now is 11
th all-time in total blocks.
The see-saw battle continued early in the third set as The Wolverines took an early 5-3 lead following kills from Cuff and Ellis, with Medeiros adding her 101
st career service ace. The Mavericks were able to come and took their first lead in the set at 6-5 before later using a 4-1 run to take an 11-8 advantage. UVU got back within one at 16-15 after a service ace from
Molly Cummard, but UTA found a 5-0 run to go up 20-15 to pull away and win the set 25-19.
Utah Valley will stay home and play their next two matches against UTRGV on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1:00 p.m. MT and Seattle U on Monday, Oct. 9 at 6:00 p.m. MT.
