AMES, Iowa – Utah Valley University wrestling fell to No. 4 Iowa State 44-3 on Friday night inside the Hilton Coliseum. UVU (1-1, 0-1) picked up a 6-1 decision by 197-pounder Evan Bockman for their lone evening win. No. 4 ISU (9-1, 2-0) and their lineup of ranked wrestlers overwhelmed the Wolverines in the dual.
 
The Cyclones took early control in the dual with wins while earning bonus points. No. 23 Kysen Turukina, No. 8 Evan Frost, and No. 12 Anthony Echemendia put them up 13-0.
 
The 149-pound bout featured a pair of 2023 NCAA qualifiers as Utah Valley's Isaiah Delgado took the lead in the second on an escape following a scoreless first period. The third period favored Iowa State's Zach Redding, who tied the match with an escape and added takedown for a 4-1 decision.
 
Iowa State's run of ranked wrestlers continued with No. 15 Cody Chittum winning by tech fall at 157 and pins from No. 4 David Carr (165) and No. 22 MJ Gaitan (174). At 184, No. 9 Will Feldkamp scored late points to pull away from No. 30 Jacob Armstrong by tech fall.
 
The lone win for Utah Valley came at 197 pounds. No. 27 Julien Broderson (Iowa State) took a 1-0 lead with a second-period escape before Bockman tied the match in the third period. The tough battle remained tied until the final few seconds when UVU's two-time NCAA qualifier scored a takedown to take a late 4-1 lead and added a near fall as time expired for a 6-1 decision. He earned his tenth win of the season in his first action since the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
 
The Wolverines will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a dual tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. MT against No. 13 Northern Iowa. UVU returns home next week for their first home dual of the year against Big 12 foe Wyoming.
