OREM, Utah – Utah Valley wrestling returns home for their first dual of the season this weekend against No. 24 Wyoming. The dual marks the home opener for the Wolverines after being road warriors since the beginning of the season. They will be at home three other times this year with North Dakota State and No. 10 South Dakota State on Feb. 2-3 before hosting California Baptist on Feb. 24.
The dual will be streamed on Youtube.com/GoUVU, and live results will be available via TrackWrestling.
The Wolverines enter the dual with a 1-2 record. They defeated American University on Nov. 17, 25-12, but are coming off of a pair of losses to ranked foes No. 4 Iowa State and No. 13 UNI. Utah Valley's No. 19
Evan Bockman led the way with a couple of victories over ranked Big 12 opponents after defeating No. 27 Julien Broderson (Iowa State) by a 6-1 decision before closing out the weekend with a 4-2 decision over No. 19 Wyatt Voelker of UNI. 149-pounder
Isaiah Delgado earned his first dual win of the season by beating UNI's Adam Allard 5-0.
ABOUT WYOMING
The Cowboys will enter Lockhart Arena with a 4-5 record and 2-3 in duals. They picked up a victory over No. 15 Air Force, 30-14, on Jan. 12 in Laramie. 125-pounder Jore Volk is ranked No. 4 in the country and is coming off of a ranked win over No. 33 Tucker Owens. Wyoming's lineup will also feature ranked wrestlers No. 31 Cole Brooks at 141, No. 21 Gabe Willochell at 149, and freshman Joey Novak at 197, who comes in at No. 19 in the rankings.
UTAH VALLEY IN THE RANKINGS
The Wolverines continue to be represented by
Jacob Armstrong and Bockman in the rankings. The West Mountain, Utah native Armstrong came in this week at 27/31 in the FloWrestling and Intermat polls. Bockman earned the 19
th spot in the WIN rankings before Flo and InterMat rankings of 20 and 21.
As a team, Utah Valley fell out of the NCWA Coaches Poll this week after earning two votes in the poll last week.
LAST YEAR IN LARAMIE
UVU will look to bounce back from last season's loss to Wyoming, 26-6, scoring a pair of victories on the night. Heavyweight
Chase Trussell won the second match of the dual by a 3-2 decision before Delgado added a victory 1-0 over Warren Carr in the 149 pounds. The Wolverines will travel to Laramie later this season for the Cowboy Shootout on Feb. 17.
