Utah Valley returns to WAC play on Thursday night against California Baptist

UTAH VALLEY RETURNS TO WAC PLAY TO HOST CALIFORNIA BAPTIST ON THURSDAY NIGHT AT UCCU CENTER
Utah Valley (6-7, 1-1) returns to WAC play this week as the Wolverines are set to take on California Baptist (8-5, 1-1) on Thursday night at the UCCU Center. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

Trevin Dorius scored a career-high 20 points and Tanner Toolson helped with 11 to lead Utah Valley in an 85-63 setback to Boise State on Friday night at ExtraMile Arena in Boise, Idaho.

Utah Valley has suffered just two losses over the last two seasons in the comfy confines of the UCCU Center. The Wolverines have won 21 of their last 23 games at home.

UVU opened WAC play with a 1-1 record with a win at home over Seattle U and a road loss to Utah Tech.

Utah Valley is only one of six teams in the nation that returned players with a total of zero starts from the 2022-23 season. UVU has 11 new players this season, including seven transfers. The only returning players that saw time last season are Jaden McClanahan and Ethan Potter and neither started a game last season.

BROADCAST INFORMATION
Thursday night's game against California Baptist will be broadcast live on ESPN+, which is available on the ESPN app and on ESPNplus.com. Brandon Crow and Josh Kallunki will be on the call for the ESPN+ broadcast. The game will also be broadcast over the air waves in Utah County with Jim McCulloch and Brice Larson on the call. The radio broadcast will be aired live on ESPN 960 AM radio with a live stream available at ESPN960sports.com.  Larson will host the pregame/halftime/postgame show for the game on ESPN 960 AM. 

ABOUT CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
California Baptist enters Thursday's game against Utah Valley with an 8-5 overall record and a 1-1 record in WAC play. The Lancers wrapped up non-league play last week with a 74-62 win over Chicago State at home (Dec. 27) and a 66-61 loss at New Mexico State (Dec. 30). The team holds a 1-1 record in WAC play with a road loss at Southern Utah and a home win over Utah Tech. In the loss at NM State on Saturday, newly eligible Kendal Coleman came off the bench to score 14 points. Dominique Daniels Jr. also had 14 points in the road loss to the Aggies. Daniels Jr. leads the team in scoring at 18.2 points per game. Blondeau Tchoukuiegno and Yvan Ouedraogo also average double figures at 10.7 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. Hunter Goodrick leads the team on the boards, pulling down 9.5 rebounds a game. As a team, CBU is averaging 69.92 points per game while limiting opponents to a 65.54 average. The Lancers rank 29th in the country in free throw attempts per game (24.3) and 53rd nationally in rebound margin (6.6). 

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE LANCERS
Utah Valley and California Baptist will meet for the 11th time on the basketball hardwood on Thursday night. The Wolverines hold an all-time 7-3 advantage in the series. UVU has won three straight over the Lancers, including five of the last six. UVU took both games in the two-game series last season, taking a 71-67 win in Riverside and a 71-55 win in Orem. UVU holds an all-time 5-1 record against CBU in games played at the UCCU Center.

UCCU CENTER MAGIC
Utah Valley holds an impressive 73-17 (81%) record at home since a win over Seattle U on March 4, 2017. The Wolverines hold an all-time 224-63 (78%) record as the team is in its 21st season at the UCCU Center. The Wolverines are averaging 10.9 wins a season on their home hardwood. UVU finished 14-1 at home last season. The team has won 21 of its last 23 games at home and 29 of its last 33 at the UCCU Center. Utah Valley's 14 wins at home during the 2022-23 season tied the program record for home wins in a season with the 2006-07, 2011-12, and 2018-19 seasons. UVU is 4-1 at home this season.
