ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley University junior distance runner
Morgan Nokes was named the WAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday after her performance at last week's Weber State Invitational.
Nokes set a program record while winning the indoor mile at the event with an altitude-adjusted time of 4:46.56. The time is currently a WAC-best and the 15th-best time in the Mountain Region. Nokes also teamed up with
Oakley Olson,
Becky Lowder, and
Olivia Larsen to win the distance medley relay and also set the No. 2 time in program history (11:43.32). The DMR time leads the Mountain Region and ranks seventh in the country.
This past fall, Nokes also led the No. 23 women's cross country team to its second straight appearance at the NCAA Championships and to the second straight national ranking to end the season. She's the second UVU athlete to receive a weekly honor during indoor track, with freshman
Anaya Potter earning the WAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week in December. Nokes also won a weekly cross country WAC award on Sept. 6.
