Wolverines host Redhawks Saturday in UCCU Center

OPENING TIP
Coming off of a big road win in WAC play last week, Utah Valley University hosts Seattle University on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT in the UCCU Center. The game will air live on ESPN+. Last week, the Wolverines (7-10, 2-6) split two games and have won two of three entering this weekend. 

Tahlia White scored a career-high 23 points against Grand Canyon on Jan. 18 and then followed that up with nine points including two big free-throws with 1.5 seconds left in the road win at Utah Tech.  Her 8.2 points per game lead the team while Kylee Mabry is averaging 8.0 points per contest. The Wolverines lead the WAC and rank 16th nationally with 11.6 steals per game while also leading the league in bench points (28.5), turnovers forced (20.7), and turnover margin (-4.65).

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley University picked up a big road win, 55-52, at Utah Tech University on Saturday as the in-state rivals met in the Old Hammer Rivalry in WAC women's basketball. Jenna Dick led the Wolverines with 15 points, matching her season high. Mabry finished with 12 points and six rebounds, and White added nine points and hit two big free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining after securing a decisive steal with just seconds to go. UVU trailed 45-44 when White hit a go-ahead three and, after the Trailblazers tied it at 47-47, Dick buried her fourth 3-pointer of the game to put the Wolverines in front for good.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Seattle University took league-leading Grand Canyon to double overtime in its most recent contest before falling 84-73 in Phoenix. Makayla Moore had 20 points to lead the Redhawks (1-16, 1-7), who have lost 10 straight since facing the Wolverines in the WAC opener on Nov. 29, a game Seattle U won 58-48. Mya Moore leads the Redhawks with 12.8 points per game. UVU trails the all-time series 15-11 and has lost three straight overall, but is 8-4 at home in the series.

UP NEXT

Next week, Utah Valley will host Stephen F. Austin on Thursday, Feb. 1 in Lockhart Arena at 6 p.m. before traveling to Phoenix to face Grand Canyon on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
