Faith Webber recorded a hat trick to lead Utah Valley to a 4-1 win over California Baptist on Senior Night at Clyde Field, extending UVU's win streak to eight games.
Departing seniors
Abby Gemza,
Jaylyn Wright,
Quincy Bonds,
Haley Funn,
Manthy Brady,
CJ Graham, and Webber were honored in a pregame ceremony.
"Tonight was special as we celebrated our seniors who have given so much to this program," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "To see the performance they put on tonight, especially Faith with a hat trick, was fitting for the occasion. I'm proud of the entire group, and I thought we improved as the game went on, scoring some brilliant goals along the way."
Utah Valley improves to 11-4-1 overall and remains a perfect 4-0-0 in WAC play with two games left in the regular season as the Wolverines pursue their third straight WAC regular season title.
In the 13th minute,
Kate Shirts sent a ball from midfield to Bonds on the right side. Bonds dribbled into the box and delivered a cross to Webber, who one-touched it into the back of the net to give UVU a 1-0 lead.
In the 48th minute, Shirts delivered a corner kick into the box, which was deflected and headed around before finding
Ashley Garcia, who fired a shot between two CBU defenders and past the keeper to extend the lead to 2-0.
The game was delayed for 30 minutes due to lightning, but UVU wasted no time after the restart. In the 49th minute,
Ruby Hladek sent a pass to
Nixan Jackson, who then set up
Webber in the middle of the box for her second goal, making it 3-0.
California Baptist responded with a goal in the 59th minute to cut the lead to 3-1.
In the 77th minute, Shirts won a header after CBU's goalkeeper cleared the ball to midfield. Shirts' header found Garcia, who played Webber through for her third goal, completing the hat trick and securing a 4-1 victory. This marks Webber's third career hat trick, the 13th in UVU history, and she becomes the first player in program history to record three career hat tricks.
UVU outshot CBU 19-12, with an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams earned four corner kicks. Webber led all players with nine shots, including four on target, while Hladek added four shots with two on goal.
CJ Graham earned the win in goal, playing all 90 minutes and making three saves.
