MENLO PARK, Calif. – Utah Valley wrestling had 22 compete on Saturday at the Menlo Invite hosted by Menlo College. The Wolverines came away with eight titles in the ten weight classes and had both finalists at 125, 133, 141, and 157 classes with rematches from UVU wrestle-offs. 17 of 22 in the tournament placed in the first tournament of the season.
 
"The goal of this tournament was to solidify some weight classes and put together two solid days of competition. I'm proud of the way our guys responded after losing to Stanford. We had champions at eight of the ten weight classes. Our focus now turns to preparing for Nebraska next week. Go Wolverines!" said UVU head coach Adam Hall.
 
Bridger Ricks outscored his opponents 23-0 in his first two matches before beating teammate Yusief Lillie in the semifinals in a bout that went to sudden victory. In the finals, he picked up an 8-4 decision over Talen Eck, who finished 3-1, winning via technical falls and a pair of pins for a second-place finish. Will VomBaur, competing unattached, dropped his semifinal match before working back through the consolation rounds to finish in third place.
 
The UVU success continued at 133, with Kase Mauger going 4-0 on the day. The redshirt junior advanced to the finals with three pins in a total of 2:44, with the fastest coming in just 15 seconds in the opening round. He defeated Jacob Myers by technical fall in a rematch from wrestle-offs.
The 141-pound title went to No. 32 Haiden Drury, who advanced to the semifinals on a pair of tech falls on the day. He did not wrestle in the finals after his opponent got hurt.
 
Freshman Ryker Fullmer continued his hot start to his UVU career by winning the 157-weight class with a 4-0 record. He outscored his opponents 58-10 during those matches. He earned two tech falls, a major decision, and a decision in the final over Alex Emmer by a 5-1 final.
 
No. 7 Terrell Barraclough finished his first weekend in a UVU singlet going 5-0. He pinned his quarterfinal opponent in 1:25 before defeating Stanford's Zach Hansen by major decision to advance to the finals, where he pinned Evan Manzo from CSUB.
 
UVU saw great success against Stanford on the day, as 184-pounder Caleb Uhlenhopp defeated three Cardinal grapplers on his way to the title. He won his quarterfinal battle with Abram Wojcikiewicz by a 7-2 decision after receiving a first-round bye in the field. He advanced to the finals with a major decision over Lars Michaelson before a 4-0 decision over Tye Monteiro gave him his first title.
 
Kael Bennie defeated Stanford's Cole Han-Lindemyer by fall in 4:13, the third fall of the day, all coming in at least four minutes of action. The redshirt freshman now has eight pins in his young UVU career after competing unattached last season. He is now 3-2 this season after taking on tough opponents in dual action on Friday night.
 
Jack Forbes took home the heavyweight title with a 4-0 record. He earned two majors, a tech fall, and a decision. He picked up a pair of Division I wins first in the quarterfinals against CSU Bakersfield's Eric Mittlestead with a 13-5 major decision and later added an 8-6 decision over Cal Poly's Cole Jackson.
 
Mark Takara advanced to the finals but fell in the finals to place second. Several others placed in the tournament, with Tanner Frothinger defeating Q'Veli Quintanilla for third place at 149 pounds. At 174 pounds, Trevor Frank got past Tanner Lofthouse, who wrestled unattached and finished fourth. Lillie and Eli Stafford both were scheduled for fifth-place matches, but those matches were not completed.
 
The Wolverines will head to No. 3 Nebraska next week for a dual at 6:00 p.m. MT in the Devaney Center before their 2024-2025 home opener in the UCCU Center against No. 3 Oklahoma State on November 15.
