LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley University travels to Air Force this week for a Wednesday contest that tips off at 6:30 p.m. MT from Clune Arena. At 6-2, the Wolverines are off to their best start since the 2015-16 season.Â
UVU split two games last week at the University of San Diego Thanksgiving Classic. The Wolverines edged Alabama A&M, 56-54, before falling to Omaha, 53-48, on Saturday. Tahlia White led Utah Valley in scoring in both contests, averaging 18.5 points in the two games including a 19-point output in the win over Alabama A&M.
After playing a busy November that included eight games, including a pair of back-to-backs, Utah Valley will play just four games in December and just one of those, vs Jacksonville State on Dec. 16, will be at home in the UCCU Center.Â
As a team, UVU is among the Top 30 in the nation in steals per game (sixth, 15.3), turnovers forced per game (12th, 25.4), assists per game (18th, 18.5), bench points per game (28th, 31.3), and scoring defense (28th, 54.1).
LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley got another standout performance from Tahlia White, but came up short, 53-48, to Omaha on Saturday at the University of San Diego Thanksgiving Classic. White, who scored 19 in a win on Friday, followed that up with 18 points to go along with six rebounds and three steals.
Kylee Mabry had 10 points while Danja Stafford Collins led the team with eight rebounds. Leading 29-25 at halftime, Omaha used a 15-2 run over the first six minutes of the third to take a 44-27 lead, forcing the Wolverines to play catch-up the rest of the way.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Air Force is 7-1 to match its best start in program history and best start since 1987-88. The Falcons won twice at last week's Puerto Rico Classic, defeating Milwaukee and Winthrop. They've now won four straight with the only loss this season coming on the road at Army. Milahnie Perry and Madison Smith lead the team offensively, averaging 17.4 and 16.4 points per game, respectively.Â
The Falcons are under the leadership of first-year head coach Stacy McIntyre, who has two familiar faces on her bench in former Wolverine assistants Adam Wardenburg and Xojian Harry, who joined her staff this season.
UP NEXT
Next week, Utah Valley will make the short trip to Provo to face BYU on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Marriott Center.Â
