Utah Valley hosts California Baptist on Senior Day

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley wrestling closes the regular season on Feb. 24 at 11:00 a.m. MT against California Baptist inside Lockhart Arena. The dual marks Senior Day for the Wolverines, who will honor Ty Smith, Jayden Woodruff, Jacob Armstrong, Chase Trussell, Hunter Morse, Isaiah Delgado, Kobe Nelms, and Cameron Haddock before the match.
 
The match also serves as the final home dual for UVU head coach Greg Williams, who will retire after 18 years leading the Wolverine program at the end of the season.
 
The dual will air on Youtube.com/GoUVU with Sam Allen and Chasen Tolbert on the call. TrackWrestling will have live scoring and results from the dual.
 
Utah Valley was edged by Air Force, 23-18 on Feb. 9, where they won five duals on the evening, including wins by Kase Mauger, Haiden Drury, Isaiah Delgado, and James Emmer to put UVU in front 14-3 before the Falcons rallied and won at 165, 174, and 184 to bring the dual closer. No. 14 Evan Bockman regained the lead for Utah Valley at 18-17 with an 11-1 major decision over Calvin Sund before No. 2 Wyatt Hendrickson swung the dual to AF with a pin at 285.
 
Northern Colorado defeated UVU the following night 22-15 after bonus point wins early from No. 9 Stevo Poulin and No. 15 Dominick Serrano before No. 2 Vincent Zerban put the dual out of reach despite wins by No. 28 Jacob Armstrong and Bockman.
 
ABOUT CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
The Lancers enter the dual this year with a 6-10 record overall and 1-6 in Big 12 duals. They are led by 125-pounder Elijah Griffin, who has a 16-7 record and is 3-6 in duals. He came in this week at No. 32. Hunter Leake at 133 is 14-5 this season and has been in and out of the rankings during his CBU career.
 
The Wolverines hold a 3-0 record all-time against the Lancers, with a 29-9 win last year in Riverside. UVU won the only previous meeting in Orem in 2021 with a 25-16 victory.
 
UVU IN THE RANKINGS
The Wolverines had three in the week's national rankings as Bockman moved to up No. 14 in both the InterMat and Flo polls and the NCAA tabbed him at No. 11 in the first RPI rankings. Armstrong found himself at No. 28 and No. 31, with the Coaches' panel rankings listing the UVU senior at No. 25. Drury was not ranked in the NCAA or RPI but was at No. 29 and No. 32 in the other polls.
 
BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Wolverines will move into the post-season, with the next competition being the Big 12 Championships, Mar. 9-10 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
