Utah Valley Snaps Tarleton State's 10-Game Winning Streak with 63-60 Road Victory

STEPHENVILLE, TexasEthan Potter scored a career-high 22 points and pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds to lead Utah valley to a 63-60 road win over Tarleton State on Thursday night at Wisdom Gym, snapping the Texans' 10-game winning streak—the second longest win streak in the nation.
 
Utah Valley improves to 15-15 overall and 10-9 in WAC play. Tarleton State falls to 22-8 overall and 15-4 in league play.
 
"It was a heck of a win," said Utah Valley head coach Todd Phillips. "These guys are so good at home and such a talented team who had won 10 straight. We've now won six of seven and our guys are playing really well right now. We're playing really hard right now and I'm really proud of our guys."
 

Utah Valley trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half, 51-38, with 13:09 to play. The Texans kept the lead at 12 points, 58-46, with 9:18 to go. Drake Allen threw down a dunk that sparked a 17-2 run over the final 9:18 of the game to help lift the Wolverines to the win.  

Potter scored his game-high 22 points on an 8 of 18 clip from the field and a 6 of 11 mark at the free throw line. He also pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds to go along with three blocks and a steal.
 
Allen matched a season high with 20 points, knocking down 8 of 13 shots from the floor and 4 of 6 shots at the charity stripe. He also pulled down a season-high eight rebounds. 
 
Caleb Stone-Carrawell came off the bench to score 12 points in 28 minutes of action. Trevin Dorius reigned in 14 rebounds with four points.
 
Utah Valley shot 39.4% (26-66) from the field and went 0 of 12 from 3-point range. It marks the second time this season that UVU has won a game without connecting on a shot from beyond the arc. The Wolverines shot 50% (11-22) from the free throw line. UVU held Tarleton State to a 36.4% (24-66) clip from the floor with a 19% (4-21) mark from long range. 
 
UVU outrebounded TSU 49-40 and had an impressive 20 offensive boards. The Wolverines outscored the Texans 48-30 in the paint. UVU got 14 points from its bench compared to TSU's six. 
 
Utah Valley will continue WAC road play as the team wraps up regular season play at Abilene Christian (15-15, 10-9) on Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum in Abilene, Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. (MT). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and over the airwaves on ESPN 960 AM radio.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The two teams played through six lead changes and two ties over the first 9:19 of the game as Utah Valley to a slight 16-15 lead with 10:41 to play in the first half. The Wolverines then used a 6-2 run over the next 2:34 to take a five-point, 22-17, lead with 8:07 remaining in the half. TSU responded with a 21-6 run over the next seven minutes to take the lead, 38-28, with 1:42 on the clock. Each team scored a basket over the final 1:42 as the Texans held on to a 10-point, 40-30, lead at the break.  
 
Second Half
Utah Valley scored six of the first eight points of the second half to cut the TSU lead to six points, 42-36, with 16:46 on the clock. The Texans then used a 7-2 run to extend the lead to 11 points, 49-38, with 14:10 to go. The Wolverines responded right back with a 7-2 run on a couple of Allen buckets to cut the lead back to seven points, 53-46, with 10:06 to play. TSU then scored five unanswered to get the lead to 12 points, 58-46, with 9:18 on the clock. Allen then scored back-to-back buckets to spark a 15-2 UVU run over the final 8:48 of the game to help lift the Wolverines to a 63-60 win.
