OREM—The Utah Valley women's soccer team went a perfect 10-0 during its spring season over the past two months. The 10 wins included victories over BYU, Weber State, UNLV, Concordia, Utah Celtic FC, Westminster, UVU Alumni, Utah State, Boise State, and College of Idaho.
"This spring was especially important for our program, as we graduated the core of our leaders from last fall," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We knew that we would still be talented and were optimistic that players would step up but until we got into the thick of it we couldn't be sure. Step up, mature, take on new roles and elevate is exactly what the group did over the course of the spring, we were able to integrate some transfers that came in as well as high school seniors that opted to join us a semester early."
Utah Valley opened its spring season with a 2-1 win against crosstown rival BYU and a 5-0 shutout over Weber State in Provo on Feb. 24. The team then picked up a pair of wins in Las Vegas, defeating UNLV, 2-1, before downing Concordia College (Canada), 6-0.
The Wolverines downed local club team, the U14 Utah Celtic FC Boys team, 5-1, at Clyde Field on March 23. UVU also picked up a 6-1 win over Westminster on March 23.
UVU played its annual spring alumni game on March 30, defeating the former Wolverines, 3-2. The Wolverines then defeated Utah State, 5-1, in the team's final spring home contest on April 6.
Utah Valley wrapped up its spring slate with a pair of wins in The Gem State, defeating regional rival Boise State, 2-1, and the College of Idaho, 5-0.
"We were able to identify and name our captains in
Faith Webber,
CJ Graham and
Haley Funn and they spent time investing in our team culture and setting the standard for the program moving forward," added Lemay. "The results that we got were a biproduct of the work we did in training."
Utah Valley will open its official 2024 season with an exhibition game at home against BYU on August 7 at Clyde Field.
