ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley freshman pitcher Avery Sapp has been named the TicketSmarter WAC Pitcher of the Week for the game week ending April 28.
Sapp led the Wolverines to a series win at Southern Utah last weekend, pitching a pair of complete games, including a shutout in Sunday's series finale. Sapp came two outs away from another shutout on Saturday, but still allowed just one ER over 14 innings pitched this week.
Sapp has been hitting her stride at the right time. In her last five outings, Sapp has allowed four earned runs in 32.1 innings pitched, good for a 0.86 ERA in that span, while also racking up 24 strikeouts. With her shutout on Sunday, Sapp became just the second UVU freshman pitcher to throw multiple shutouts in a season, joining Josi Summers, who also threw two in 2011.
Utah Valley closes out the road portion of the 2024 schedule with a midweek matchup in Pocatello, Idaho against the Idaho State Bengals. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. MT, and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
