LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Utah Valley's Halle Morris has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-West Region first team, the organization announced on Saturday.
Morris, a graduate student from Tucson, Arizona, was a two-way threat for the Wolverines all season long, leading the pitching staff in ERA (3.91), wins (9), innings pitched (132.1), and strikeouts (75). As a hitter, Morris led the team in on-base percentage (.464), HBPs (13), and walks (22), while finishing second in batting average, hits, RBIs, multi-hit and multi-RBI games.
"This award is so well-deserved," said head coach Cody Thomson. "Not only is Halle a great softball player, she's a great person and leader."
Morris pitched seven complete games in 2024, including a stretch of three-straight complete game wins from March 29 to April 2. Morris picked up two complete game wins over Abilene Christian — twice tying her career high with six strikeouts — then came home and tossed another complete game to help secure a 7-2 win over Seattle U.
Morris registered 12 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games, with six of those multi-hit and four of those multi-RBI games coming while pitching. Morris was instrumental in UVU's 12-10 win over BYU on April 9, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Morris also hit a pair of home runs in the final series of the regular season against Utah Tech to help lead the Wolverines to a sweep of the Trailblazers and earn UVU its best regular season finish since 2018.
Morris is the third Wolverine to be named All-Region by the NFCA, joining Lauren Frailey Spendlove (2017) and Makayla Shadle (2018). Morris is the first to be named first team All-Region, as the prior two were third team honorees. This is Morris' third All-Region recognition, earning All-Pacific Region honors as a sophomore and junior at Utah.
Morris will now advance to the NFCA All-American ballot, which will be voted on May 26-27, and announced on May 31 at the NCAA DI Championship Banquet prior to the Women's College World Series.
