OREM—Utah Valley head coach
Todd Phillips has announced that Polk State College standout Dominick Nelson has transferred to Utah Valley and will play for the Wolverines this next season.
Â
"Dom was a big time get for the Wolverines," said Phillips. "We reached across the country and got Dom who is one of the top JUCO players in Florida. He is a 6-foot-5 combo guard who can really get to the basket. We love his length and athleticism. He has a high basketball IQ and really competes on the defensive end."
Â
Nelson, a 180-pound, 6-foot-5 forward, played the last two seasons (2022-24) at Polk State College in Winterhaven, Florida where he earned First Team All-Citrus Conference honors. Nelson nearly reached the 1,000-point mark in his two seasons with the Eagles. He averaged 20.1 points per game last season, the highest average for a Polk State player in seven years. He scored in double figures in 27 of the 28 games he played last season, including a career-best 33 points against Indian River State on Feb. 28. He shot 45% from the field and 74% from the free throw line. Nelson also averaged 1.7 steals per game.Â
Â
The Miami, Florida native prepped at Liberty Heights Athletic Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina. He led LHAI to a 30-plus win season and a Big Shots national championship in 2022. Â
Â
Nelson will join the Wolverines for the 2024-25 season.
