ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Valley women's volleyball won a pair of Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Player of the Week awards for the week ending Sept. 15. UVU's
Bella Wooden won her first WAC Player of the Week honor, and
Evalyn Chism won her WAC Setter of the Week honor this season. Utah Tech's Mya Laufiso earned Libero of the Week.
Wooden finished second in school history in attack percentage by hitting .769 against Boston College. She recorded double-digit kills against both Power 5 programs that UVU faced, finishing with 11 kills against BC and ten against Georgia. Her best performance of the weekend likely came in the tournament opener against Jacksonville, when she tallied six kills, six aces, and six total blocks to aid the Wolverines to a sweep. In her first season in Orem, Wooden is currently in the Top 10 nationally in blocks per set and is No. 5 in total blocks.
Chism finished the Classic City Clash with 111 assists to average 11.10 in UVU's three matches to help the UVU offense. The sophomore added a tournament-high 41 assists at Georgia while adding ten digs for her second double-double of the tournament. Earlier in the day against Boston College, she recorded a season-high five kills in a sweep of Boston College. She is among the nation's top setters, ranking No. 8 in assists per set (11.17) and No. 5 in total assists (391).
The Wolverines will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 8:00 p.m. MT against Utah State. The match will be streamed on the Mountain West Network. The non-conference portion of the schedule concludes on Saturday, Sept. 21, with a match in Provo against No. 19 BYU.
