Utah Valley heads to Florida for a pair of games this week, facing off with the Florida Atlantic Owls on Thursday and the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Sunday.
Both games are scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. MT, but only Thursday's game at FAU will be streamed. Live stats for both will be available at UVUStats.com.
Utah Valley is coming off of a 3-1 win over the UCSD Tritons this past Thursday in the home opener at Clyde Field. A trio of Wolverines garnered accolades from the WAC for their performance in that game, with Isaac Emojong and Alex Fritcher combining for the WAC Top Play of the week, and Tom Dobek-Pietrowski earning WAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.Â
The Wolverines took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute on a set piece. Emojong lofted a cross towards the back post that found Fritcher, who rose highest and headed it home. Gilles Aurelien drew a foul in the penalty area to earn a PK in the 70th minute, which Souley Diouf was able to convert. UCSD turned around and scored a penalty of their own on a handball less than 90 seconds later. Omar Yehya capped the scoring in the 85th minute after Nate Kovalcik's free kick struck woodwork and bounced free.
Through two match weeks, the Wolverines have showcased a potent attack, ranking 18th in the nation in scoring offense at 2.67 goals per game. Leading that attack are freshman midfielder Isaac Emojong and redshirt senior forward Omar Yehya, who each have a team best five points with two goals and an assist through three games. Yehya also ranks 7th in the nation in shots per game at 4.33. As a team, Utah Valley ranks 26th and 27th respectively in total goals and total assists apiece.Â
The Wolverines have also shown a strong defensive presence through the first three games, holding opponents to just seven shots per game and allowing just two open-play goals. In Thursday's win, UVU held UCSD to just four shots.
This week's games are Utah Valley's first in the state of Florida, and are also the farthest the team has ever traveled for a game. The Wolverines will travel approximately 2,500 miles to Boca Raton to face FAU, surpassing the previous high of roughly 2,388 miles when the team traveled to Massachusetts in 2015 to face UMass and UMass-Lowell.Â
SERIES HISTORY VS FAU & FGCU
Utah Valley hosted the Owls back in 2018 for the lone meeting in series history, with the Wolverines winning 4-0. UVU has never faced FGCU.
WOLVERINES SETTING THE PACE IN THE WAC
Through the Labor Day weekend, Utah Valley is unbeaten through three games with two wins and one tie. UVU is one of two teams in the league to remain unbeaten thus far through three games, and the only with two wins. Seattle U could join UVU with a win at San Francisco on Thursday.
CLYDE FIELD FORTRESS
Since the start of 2022, Utah Valley is 9-0-4 in games at Clyde Field and have allowed just 7 goals in those 13 games, good for the longest unbeaten streak in program history. In 2022, Utah Valley went a perfect 5-0 at home, and allowed just one goal in 450 minutes played at Clyde Field. The Wolverines went unbeaten in 7 games at Clyde Field in 2023, picking up 3 wins and 4 draws.Â
COMING OUT OF THE GATE STRONG
In its 11-season program history, Utah Valley is unbeaten in regular season openers, with 10 wins and 1 draw. The lone draw came in Beckerman's first game at the helm in the Fall 2021 season at Canisius. UVU is also a perfect 11-0 in home openers, outscoring opposition by a combined score of 34-7 in those games.
