No. 11 Utah State Capitalizes on Early Goals to Defeat Utah Valley 3-0

OREM—No. 11 Utah State scored three first-half goals to secure a 3-0 win over Utah Valley on Thursday night at Clyde Field.

Utah Valley drops its third straight game, falling to 2-3-1 overall on the season. Utah State improves to a perfect 6-0-0 on the year.

"Ironically, I thought we played well tonight," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "We had a couple of unfortunate scenarios that turned into goals for them, so credit to Utah State for capitalizing on their opportunities. But overall, I think if we play like that consistently, we're going to win a lot more games than we lose. I was disappointed in the Virginia game and the second half against Long Beach, but tonight I told the players to keep their heads high because there was a lot more good than bad in that match. We'll take what we can grow from and keep building towards playing our best soccer in October and November."

Kaitlyn Richins sent a free kick from past midfield into the box that bounced up and over UVU's keeper and into the goal, giving Utah State an early 1-0 lead in the third minute.

The Aggies extended their lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute after Kate Christian made a move around UVU defenders, breaking loose inside the box before firing a shot into the left side of the goal.

Austin Miller made it 3-0 for Utah State in the 43rd minute, picking up a deflected save from Utah Valley's keeper and sending a shot across the line to give the Aggies a commanding lead.

Utah State outshot Utah Valley 22-13 on the night, with a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal. Faith Webber led the Wolverines with four shots, including two on frame. Manthy Brady and Nixan Jackson each had two shots. Utah Valley had eight corner kicks to USU's four.

CJ Graham played the first half in goal for UVU, while Leah Wolf played the second half for the Wolverines. Graham had three saves, while Wolf tallied six.

Utah Valley will now travel to Salt Lake City to begin a three-game road swing as the Wolverines take on in-state foe Utah on Sunday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
