ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley redshirt senior infielder Megan Gibbs has been named to the preseason All-WAC team, the league announced in a release on Wednesday.
Gibbs, who is coming off of arguably the best offensive season in Utah Valley softball history, earned first team All-WAC honors in 2024 after leading the league in home runs (15) and slugging percentage (.707), while finishing third in RBIs (49) and fifth in total bases (106). Gibbs' 15 home runs set a school single-season record, and her 49 RBIs were also three away from setting another. Gibbs is the leading returner in the WAC in RBIs, and is one behind the leader in total bases.
The Wolverines were also picked to finish third in the preseason coaches poll, earning one first place vote. Defending champions Grand Canyon were picked to repeat, earning seven of the nine first place votes, followed by California Baptist. Seattle U earned the remaining first place vote and was picked to finish fourth.
Utah Valley is coming off one of its best seasons as a team since it joined the WAC in 2014. The Wolverines finished third in the WAC, the program's second-best finish since joining the league, after being projected to finish 7th (Best: 2nd, 2018). Utah Valley posted their second-best WAC win percentage and most league wins as a member. The team's 23 regular season wins were tied for the most wins entering postseason play since joining the league in 2014, and the team's 25 total wins were the 4th-most in a single season overall.
The Wolverines will open the season in just over a week on Friday, Feb. 7 at the NorCal Kickoff, hosted by UC Davis and Sacramento State. On Opening Day, the team will face Idaho State and the host Aggies in Davis, with first pitch scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. MT respectively. Live stats will be available at UVUStats.com.
