ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley freshman Sila Kiplagat has been named the WAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced in a release on Monday.

Kiplagat, a native of Iten, Kenya, picked up the first individual title of his collegiate career this past Saturday at the Color Country Invitational in Cedar City. Kiplagat ran an 18:03.23 6k time to take first just ahead of teammate Wyatt Mortenson. Kiplagat's time broke the previous course record at Cedar Ridge Golf Course, set by former Wolverine Mo Guled just last season.

Kiplagat and Utah Valley will take a week off before wrapping up the regular season on Oct. 17 in New Jersey at the Princeton Fall Classic. The women will race first at 8:30 a.m. MDT, followed by the men at 9:15.
