ARLINGTON, Texas – The Western Athletic Conference announced its weekly volleyball awards Tuesday afternoon, and Utah Valley's
Lani Matavao was named Libero of the Week for the second time this season following her performance in the Old Hammer Rivalry against Utah Tech. Abilene Christian's Ashli Edmiston was named Player of the Week with Setter of the Week going to Rachel Koss.
Matavao finished with a season-high 21 digs in Saturday's matchup of first-place teams while adding two assists to help fuel the Wolverines' offense. In WAC play this season, she is averaging more than 13 digs per match and has recorded multiple assists in several contests.
Her first weekly honor came after the Outrigger Invitational, where she tallied a team-high 32 digs (3.56 per set) in UVU's two wins in the Hawaiian Islands. Matavao currently ranks seventh all-time at Utah Valley with 1,046 career digs and needs 26 more to pass Bryton Nixon for sixth place.
The Wolverines return to action Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. MT, when they host UT Arlington at the Smith Fieldhouse. Admission is free.
