BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Four Wolverines scored in double figures, led by 19 from Jackson Holcombe, 18 from Isaac Davis, and an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double from Tyler Hendricks as Utah Valley rolled to an 82-71 win over the Bowling Green Falcons on Saturday.
Hendricks' double-double is the second of his career, and the 11 boards are a career high. Davis' 18 points matched a career high set earlier this season against UC Irvine in Orem. Hayden Welling led the bench effort with 10 points.
The win for the Wolverines is another early-season resumé-booster, as the Falcons came into Saturday with a NET ranking of 59 — the highest-ranked team Utah Valley has faced thus far — and were coming off a double-digit win at Kansas State on Monday.
Utah Valley kept Bowling Green uncomfortable all afternoon, forcing the Falcons into a season-high 20 turnovers. The Wolverines turned that into an 18-9 advantage in fastbreak points.
After trading buckets early, the Falcons held an 8-7 lead at the 16:25 mark. Utah Valley rolled to a 12-5 run over the next five minutes to take a 19-13 lead the Wolverines would never relinquish.
Utah Valley pushed the lead up to seven at the intermission at 38-31, aided in part by a pair of treys from Sherman Weatherspoon IV and seven points from Welling. The Wolverine bench outscored the Falcon bench 15-2 in the first half.
Davis came alive in the second half, scoring 16 of his 18 points on an efficient 6-of-7 from the field. The Wolverines pushed the lead to as many as 26 before the Falcons made a late push in the final two minutes.
Utah Valley returns home to kick off a five-game stretch in Utah, beginning with a visit from the Idaho State Bengals on Wednesday at the UCCU Center. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and the Wolverine Sports Network.
