ATHENS, Ga. — Megan Gibbs went 2-for-2 against her hometown team and Avery Sapp struck out five over four-plus innings pitched, but the Wolverine bats were unable to get going as undefeated No. 9 Georgia blanked Utah Valley 10-0 in six innings.
Gibbs' two hits were the only hits the Wolverines could get against the Bulldogs' Rachel Gibson, who struck out 10 in a complete game.
Sapp continued her strong weekend in the circle with her second consecutive game with five or more strikeouts, but the Bulldogs were able to work her down before rallying for four runs off of her in the fourth and fifth. Sapp had held Georgia to one unearned run on four hits over the first three frames.
The Bulldogs pushed across the first run in the bottom of the second after a leadoff error came around to score. Sapp did well to limit the damage, as Georgia had the bases loaded with nobody out, but got out of the jam with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts.
UGA pulled away in the late innings, with two in the fourth and four in the fifth before ending the game with a walk-off three-run homer in the sixth.
