LARAMIE, WYO. – Utah Valley wrestling competed on Sunday at the Cowboy Shootout hosted by the University of Wyoming. 149-pounder Tanner Frothinger won the classification, going 5-0 on the day, with freshman Hudson Rogers winning the 174-weight class with a 3-0 record.
 
Frothinger finished the day 5-0, starting with a tech fall and pins over a pair of UVU teammates. He later earned a technical fall over Kyle Manual and pin Gabe Grilho, both of Northern Colorado, to secure the title. The Wolverines had three competing at 149, with Kayd Craig placing third and Jackzen Raridon finishing third.
 
Rogers also took home first place, starting his day with a pin over Kameron Phillips (Northern Colorado) before defeating Tanner Lofthouse by decision 2-0. He finished the day with a decision over Wyoming's Weston Hoffschsneider. Lofthouse finished in fourth place, going 1-2.
 
At 133, Jake Castegneto was one of four to place second. He finished 3-1, including a pin in his first match of the round robin format. Radi Stafford went 1-2 at 197 to place second, just ahead of teammate Levi Kovacs, who placed third.
 
Tyler Jones and Eli Stafford each had fewer people register for their weight classes. Jones finished 1-1 to place second. He knocked off Cooper Birdwell of Wyoming by decision 14-11. Stafford only had one other competitor in his division, so they wrestled three times, with Lane Catlin (Wyoming) winning two out of three.
 
Patrick Mullen was the only one with a bracketed format at 141, where he made the semifinals before losing to Wyoming's Christian Herrera. He later defeated Northern Colorado's Tobey Ravida by tech fall to claim fifth.
 
The Wolverine starters will be back in action on Mar. 8-9 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., for the 2025 Big 12 Championships. They will wrestle for automatic berths to the NCAA Championships later in March.
