NCAA announces second RPI and Conference Allocations

2/27/2025 3:11:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA announced its second RPI, updated coaches' panel rankings, and 2025 NCAA Championship allocation spots, ahead of the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships next month in Philadelphia. The Wolverines had two in the rankings, while the Big 12 was given 61 automatic bids.

Each qualifying tournament was awarded pre-allocations to the national tournament based on regular season performance by conference wrestlers through February 23.  The pre-allocations were determined by using a sliding scale of the three standards, win percentage, coaches' rank, and RPI ranking; while never going below the base of .700 winning percentage, top 30 coaches' ranking and top 30 RPI ranking until reaching the maximum of 29 wrestlers per weight class.

Utah Valley's Terrell Barraclough stayed in the Top 5 for the second rankings, coming at No. 3 by both polls, and was the highest rated in the Big 12 Conference at 165. He trails only Mitchell Mesenbrink (Penn State) and Michael Caliendo (Iowa) in the polls.

Haiden Drury came in at No. 18 by the Coaches' and No. 31 in the latest RPI. It was a slower month for the UVU junior, as he sat out of a couple of duals in January.

NCAA ALLOCATIONS

Each qualifying tournament was awarded pre-allocations to the national tournament based on regular season performance by conference wrestlers through February 23.  The pre-allocations were determined by using a sliding scale of the three standards, win percentage, coaches' rank, and RPI ranking; while never going below the base of .700 winning percentage, top 30 coaches' ranking and top 30 RPI ranking until reaching the maximum of 29 wrestlers per weight class.

The Big 12 Conference was awarded 61 of the 287 pre-allocations for the 2025 NCAA Championships. The Top 7 finishers at 125, 141, 157, 165, and 184 at next week's Big 12 Championships will earn automatic bids to Philadelphia. 133, 149, and 174, finishers will need to be the top six, and the 197 and heavyweight will need to finish in the top four.

The Big Ten earned the most spots, 87 of the 287. The final spots in the tournament field will be decided by at-large selections, which will range from 4 to 6, depending on the weight, for a total of 43 spots.

The tournament field will be announced on Mar. 11, with the brackets and seedings on Mar. 12 on NCAA.com.

Utah Valley will compete next weekend (Mar. 8-9) at the 2025 Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The NCAA Championships will be held in Philadelphia on Mar. 20-22 at the Wells Fargo Center.
