Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Utah Valley saw its run at the WAC Tournament end after Grand Canyon used a big third quarter to pull away and win 84-55 in the tournament semifinals on Friday at Orleans Arena.

The Wolverines (18-12) got a team-high 16 points from the WAC's Co-Sixth Player of the Year Kylee Mabry, who was 5-for-5 from the field and also dished out two assists. Grand Canyon (31-2) ran the nation's longest win streak to 29 games behind a 28-point afternoon from Alyssa Durazo-Frescas, who went 7-for-11 from three.

Both teams got early 3-pointers from the usual suspects, with Durazo-Frescas giving GCU a 5-0 lead before Amanda Barcello answered with a make on her first attempt from distance. Danja Stafford Collins also buried a three and the game was tied 7-7 early on.

UVU went cold for the rest of the quarter, missing their last six attempts from three, with only a Mabry layup and Stafford Collins free throw on the board the rest of the first. Durazo-Frescas hit all three of her attempts from three in the first to help the Lopes build a 19-10 lead after one.

Durazo-Frescas hit her fourth 3-pointer to begin the second as Grand Canyon took a 24-10 lead just over two minutes in. The Wolverines responded, going on a 13-2 run to get within three, 26-23, with 4:21 left. Saige Gibb started the run with a three, and Mabry and Halle Nelson both had 3-point plays with buckets and a free throw.

Durazo-Frescas quelled that run with another three, finishing the half 6-for-9 from beyond the arc for a game-high 18 points. Mabry led UVU with eight, scoring six points in the second quarter. Grand Canyon took a 34-28 lead into the break.

GCU caught fire in the third to take control of the game. The Lopes made 75% of their attempts from the field, going 12-for-16, while the Wolverines were just 2-for-10. Grand Canyon outscored Utah Valley 30-9 in the third to take a 64-37 lead into the fourth. The Lopes had three separate 8-0 spurts in the third while putting the game out of reach.

Utah Valley set a program record with 18 wins in 2024-25, its most since beginning its transition to NCAA Division I in 2003-04. It's also an 8-win improvement from last season, and 12 wins better than two seasons ago.
