ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley University's Quincy Bonds was named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year, Alex Hartshorn was named the Men's Freshman of the Year, and Scott Houle was voted as the Women's Coach of the Year. The league announced the winners following a vote from the conference coaches.
 
Bonds won the honor after an indoor season that was capped with a gold and two silvers at the indoor championships last week in Spokane, Washington. She set a meet record and school record in winning the 60-meter hurdles and a school record with a time of 8.18 seconds. Bonds was also the runner-up in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash as she totaled 26 points en route to being named the Women's Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the meet while leading the team to their first indoor championship.
 
Hartshorn is the second Utah Valley men's student-athlete to win the indoor freshman award, with Ethan Farrer earning it in 2020. Hartshorn took third in both the men's 3,000 and 5,000-meter races in Spokane to earn a pair of bronze medals.
 
The Coach of the Year honor for Houle is the 40th time in his career that he's received a conference Coach of the Year award following the 40th conference title he's coached his squad to. 15 of those championships and honors have come as members of the WAC, and it marks the second time he's won the indoor award and the first time for the women.
