OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University is set to compete at the 2025 WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at UT Arlington this week, with the meet set for May 15-17 at Maverick Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Wolverine women were picked to win their second straight team championship, while the men were voted second, in a vote of the top three expected finishes by the league's coaches.
The majority of the meet can be watched on ESPN+ with live results available via Athletic.net. The broadcast begins at 5 p.m. CT/4 p.m. MT on Thursday, and 4 p.m. CT/3 p.m. MT on both Friday and Saturday. The meet begins Thursday with the multis at 10 a.m. CT, and finals in the hammer, women's pole vault, and women's javelin in the field, and 10k on the track. The multis conclude on Friday with field event finals in long jump and shot put, and steeplechase on the track. Saturday's field competition begins at 11 a.m. CT with the women's discus. The track finals will start at 4 p.m. CT with the men's 400-meter relay.
UVU's women are in search of their second straight outdoor title, which would also net them the first WAC Triple Crown from a women's program since Rice achieved it during the 1999-2000 academic year. The last program to win the WAC triple crown—the cross country, indoor, and outdoor titles in the same academic year—was Utah State's men in 2009-10.
The Wolverines won eight golds in 2024 in the meet held at Hal Wing Track & Field in Orem, en route to the women securing their first outdoor title.
Caila Odekirk won both the 5k and 10k titles in 2024, while
Kelsi Oldroyd notched her second straight javelin gold.
Adam Bunker (3k Steeplechase) and
Noah Peterson (Pole Vault) also won individual titles, with the men's 4x100 group of
Caleb Furnell,
Cameron Franklin,
Kade Thompson, and
Gabe Remy broke a school record while winning gold and becoming the first sprint relay team to advance to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. Three of the four from that quartet are expected to compete in defense of the title, with Furnell graduating in 2024.
Paige Young (400mH) and
Olivia Pixton (long jump) also won WAC titles in 2024, in what was the final season of their eligibility.
The 4x100 squad is one of 12 WAC-leading event times from the Wolverines this season, with
Quincy Bonds leading the 100-meter hurdles with a school-record time that also ranks eighth in the West this season. Bonds is currently in line for three events at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in College Station, Texas in two weeks: the 100mH, 100m, and 200m. Utah Valley currently has 14 marks that would qualify for the regional, entering the week of conference championships. Also among the qualifying marks is Oldroyd in the javelin, as she's currently fifth in the West and set to make her third straight trip to the NCAA Prelims while also in search of her third consecutive WAC title.
Bonds' impressive outdoor season has come on the heels of an indoor campaign that saw her win the WAC Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year after earning the WAC Women's Track Most Outstanding Athlete from the WAC Indoor Championships. Bonds won the 60-meter hurdles with a meet record and brought home silver in both the 60 and 200-meter hurdles.
