MARICOPA, Ariz.—Â
Clement Lepine continues to lead Utah Valley University at the National Golf Invitational presented by Golfweek after carding a 2-over-par 74 in Saturday's second round. Lepine sits in a tie for seventh on the 49-player leaderboard with a two-round score of 4-under-par 140 (66-74).
As a team, Utah Valley posted a 7-over-par 295 in the second round and dropped three spots to ninth place on the 10-team leaderboard with a two-round total of 8-over-par 584 (289-295).
Lepine tallied four birdies and eight pars on Saturday, and despite slipping five spots on the individual leaderboard, remains just five strokes off the lead heading into Sunday's final round. Oregon State's Bradley Simolinski and Utah State's Enrique Karg share the top spot at 9-under-par.
Paxton Maxwell recorded Utah Valley's low round of the day, firing an even-par 72 to jump seven spots—UVU's biggest move of the day—into a tie for 37th at 5-over-par 149 (77-72).
Zachary Erskine carded a 3-over-par 75 and is tied for 25th at 2-over-par 146 (71-75). Erskine recorded three birdies and nine pars in his round.
Isaiah Ellis also sits at 5-over-par 149 (75-74) after a second-round 74 that included an impressive five birdies. He moved up one spot into a tie for 37th alongside Maxwell.
Andrew Hawk rounded out the UVU lineup with a 3-over-par 75 and moved up one spot to 48th with a two-round score of 11-over-par 155 (80-75). Hawk's round was highlighted by three birdies on the back nine.
"We didn't have our best stuff today, but I'm proud of the way the guys battled," said head coach
Chris Curran. "Clem is still in the mix heading into Sunday, and this tournament has been a great opportunity for our younger guys to gain experience."
