OREM — The Utah Valley University men's basketball team has officially signed 6-foot-7 shooting guard Tyler Weaver, head coach Todd Phillips announced Monday. Weaver returns to UVU after redshirting during the 2024–25 season and officially joining the Wolverines for the upcoming campaign.

"Tyler's growth has been tremendous this season as he redshirted," Phillips said. "He brings size and shooting to our guard line. He can really stretch the floor and has the ability to string baskets together quickly."

A native of Aliso Viejo, California, Weaver prepped at Aliso Niguel High School, where he was named one of the top small forwards in the state by Sports Illustrated. He averaged 23.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per game as a senior while earning back-to-back Sea View League MVP honors. He also helped lead Aliso Niguel to a 2021 Sea View League championship.

On Jan. 28, 2022, Weaver broke the Aliso Niguel single-game scoring record with 43 points in an 84-77 overtime win over Dana Hills. The performance included a buzzer-beating step-back three at the end of the third quarter and a runner at the horn to force overtime, where he added eight points to seal the win.

Weaver earned 2021–22 All-Orange County Second Team honors by the Orange County Register and received offers from UC Riverside and Southern Utah prior to serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He originally signed with Southern Utah out of high school but joined Utah Valley following coaching changes during his mission.

Weaver walked on at UVU for the 2024–25 season and redshirted while developing in the program. He now officially begins his collegiate career with four years of eligibility remaining.

He is the nephew of former pro and UVU standout Travis Hansen.
