OREM, Utah — Utah Valley softball head coach Cody Thomson has announced the signing of transfer pitchers Hannah Ortega and Ruby Anderson, both of whom come to Orem by way of Fresno State.

"Hannah and Ruby are going to be great additions to our pitching staff," said Thomson. "They are going to add depth to our already great staff. Pitching is my passion and I can't wait to get them here to start working on a bright future!"

Ortega, a grad transfer southpaw from Linden, Calif., spent the last three seasons with the Bulldogs after playing her freshman campaign at Bethune-Cookman. As a freshman, she burst onto the scene with a stellar season, earning first team All-SWAC honors in addition to SWAC Freshman and Pitcher of the Year, posting a 2.98 ERA with 117 strikeouts in 183.2 IP. In two seasons played at FSU, Ortega posted a 4.38 ERA, striking out 36 in 60.2 IP.

Anderson, who will be a redshirt sophomore this upcoming season, hails from Victoria, British Columbia. The right-hander pitched 23.2 innings with 13 strikeouts as a freshman in 2024 before missing the 2025 season due to an injury. Prior to Fresno State, Anderson led her club team, the Langley Lightning, to the 2022 U-17 national championship in Canada, tossing three no-hitters to earn tournament MVP honors. Anderson has also spent time with the Canadian National Team, most recently at the 2023 Canada Cup.
