ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley junior forward Jose Luis Martin Montealegre and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Kolby Sessions have been named the WAC Offensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced in a release on Tuesday.
Montealegre, a native of Malaga, Spain and a transfer from Pima College, scored the first goal of his NCAA career on Monday in Utah Valley's 3-0 win over UC San Diego. Montealegre won possession back with a relentless defensive press, then was eventually fouled as he took a shot to earn the Wolverines a PK, which he converted.
Sessions, a native of Holladay, Utah, continued his impressive stretch to start his Wolverine career with a program record-tying sixth solo shutout in the team's first six games. In Monday's win over UCSD, Sessions tied a season high with five saves, including an impressive double save late in the first half. Sessions and the Wolverine defense are one of just three teams to have not allowed a goal so far this season, and the only team to have won every game via a shutout.
Montealegre, Sessions, and Utah Valley return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, hosting the Santa Clara Broncos at UCCU Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MDT, and tickets can be purchased at
