COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —
Paxton Maxwell fired a 5-under-par 67 to lead Utah Valley in Sunday's second round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at Eisenhower Golf Club. Maxwell sits alone atop the 115-player leaderboard at 9-under 135 (68–67).
"Pax is playing at a very high level," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Curran. "This is a course where you have to carefully plot your way around, and he did that beautifully today."
Maxwell's near-flawless round featured six birdies and 11 pars. After sharing the lead following round one, he now owns a three-shot advantage over Nevada's Oak Seelanagae and Northern Colorado's Kaelen Dulany at 6-under 138. Maxwell will take his three-stroke lead into Monday's final round.
Colby Hutchens carded a 3-under 69 and is tied for 17th at 2-under 142 (73–69) after posting six birdies and nine pars.
JJ Tomsick shot a 77 and is tied for 77th at 5-over 149 (72–77).
Isaiah Ellis turned in a 75 and is tied for 85th at 6-over 150 (75–75).
Ty Brady recorded a 76 and is tied for 100th at 8-over 152 (76–76).
As a team, Utah Valley posted a 1-under 287 and sits seventh in the 23-team field at 1-under 575 (288–287). Gonzaga leads the team leaderboard at 11-under 565 (285–280).
In the Air Force Individual at the Eisenhower Silver Course,
Elliot Bond and
Andrew Hawk are competing as individuals. Hawk carded a 1-under 71 and is tied for 16th at even-par 144 (73–71). Bond shot a 73 and is also tied for 16th at even-par 144 (71–73).
