OGDEN, Utah — Alex Hartshorn posted the first sub-four minute mile in Utah Valley indoor track history, headlining another strong day for Wolverine runners at the Weber State Indoor Invitational.
Hartshorn recorded a converted time of 3:59.72 to break the indoor school record and break the four-minute plateau. Hartshorn became the first Wolverine to run a sub-four mile in outdoor last spring, posting a time of 3:58.89 at BYU.
In total across the two-day meet, Utah Valley athletes broke two school records and posted 12 new top 10 marks. Sila Kiplagat shattered the previous 3k record with a converted time of 7:54.37, besting the previous best by nine seconds. Behind Kiplagat, Jayden Fitzgarrald came across with a time of 8:03.97 to take the third overall spot.
James Duncan showed out in the 55mH with a time of 7.57 to take the No. 2 spot on the all-time leaderboards. Fellow hurdler Payge Walz claimed the No. 6 ranking on the women's side with a time of 8.33.
Sprinters Ella Hopper and Eme Stout posted identical 7.18 times in the 55-meter dash, with both moving into a tie for fifth all-time. On the men's side, Kade Thompson and Gavin Stafford moved up to third and fifth respectively with times of 6.33 and 6.34 in the same event.
In the women's 3k, Reagan Doman posted a blistering 9:31.83 converted time to take first in the race and claim the No. 5 spot all-time in her first race in Wolverine Green.
The last two top 10's on Saturday came in the 800m, with Max Clemons taking over fifth all-time with a time of 1:52.66 and Bria Anderson claiming ninth with a time of 2:14.46.
In Friday's field events, Utah Valley's throwers claimed two top-10 marks in the weight throw. Andrew Turner improved on his PR with a mark of 17.13m to stay put at sixth, while Eddie Garcia moved up to seventh at 17.12m.
The Wolverines will be back in action in a few short days with the first of three trips to Pocatello, Idaho. Utah Valley will participate in the Snake River Open, hosted by Idaho State this coming Thursday and Friday.
