Wolverines wrap up homestand against Tarleton State

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley women's basketball wraps up a three-game homestand Thursday inside Lockhart Arena when it takes on Tarleton State for Sneakerhead Night. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT. This will be the Texans' second and final visit to Orem this season. The Wolverines will travel to Stephenville in late February for the third regular-season meeting.

Thursday night's game is scheduled to air on ESPN+ with Ethan Jordan (play-by-play) and Josh Kallunki (color) on the call. Fans can also follow along with live stats on GoUVU.com/stats. All UVU home games are scheduled to air on ESPN+.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley battled first-place California Baptist on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell 85-75. Amanda Barcello finished with a career-high 31 points on 10-for-15 shooting and 6-for-11 from 3-point range. The six made 3-pointers moved her into fifth place all time on UVU's career list. Kaylee Headrick scored 15 points for the second consecutive contest and added eight rebounds for UVU.
 
SCOUTING TARLETON STATE
Tarleton State enters the contest with a 10-8 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the WAC. The Texans have won their last three contests but are just 2-5 this season away from the newly built EECU Center. Gia Adams leads the team in scoring at 11.7 points per game, with Shadasia Brackens close behind at 11.4. Tarleton State owns a rebounding margin of more than four this season and has been tough defensively, limiting teams to a .381 shooting percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST THE TEXANS
Utah Valley is 4-0 all-time at home in the series, including wins in the last two contests in Family City, U.S.A. In the first meeting between the two this season, Barcello scored 15 points and added five rebounds for the Wolverines, who also benefited from Tessa Chaney's 14 points and six rebounds. Defensively, Utah Valley held Tarleton State to under 40% shooting, as Shadasia Brackens scored nine points and Elodie Lutbert finished with eight points in just 10 minutes due to foul trouble.
 
UP NEXT
The Wolverines have Saturday off before embarking on their second trip to Texas of the season. Utah Valley will take on Abilene Christian on Thursday, Feb. 5, and play at UT Arlington on Saturday, Feb. 7.
