Utah Valley cross country will be traveling to Cedar City, Utah this Saturday for the Color Country Invitational at Cedar Ridge Golf Course. The men will run at 10a.m. MDT with the women following after at 10:45. The live results will be posted at sporttrax.com.
The men will run a 7k race and the women will run a 5k. The women's team has won the Color Country Invitational the last five seasons, with former Wolverine Morgan Nokes and Sila Kiplagat holding the course records.
For the first time in UVU history, the men's team has earned a national ranking, debuting at No. 22 in last week's poll before moving up to No. 20 this week in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll and No. 5 in the Mountain Region Poll.
The men's team made a strong statement two weeks ago in their first major meet, finishing eighth at the John McNichols Invitational, hosted by Indiana State at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, which will also host this season's National Championships. Sila Kiplagat led Utah Valley with a 19th-place finish, completing the 8K race in 24:06.5. Alex Hartshorn followed in 50th, Trey Despain in 54th, Mark Boyle in 63rd, and Wyatt Mortenson in 79th to complete the team's scoring lineup. Porter Whitworth finished close behind Mortenson in 80th.
The women's team secured an 11th-place finish overall at Indiana State. Caren Kipsirat led the Wolverines, placing 11th individually with a time of 20:13.8. Reagan Doman also earned a top-25 finish, coming in 24th at 20:42.9. Rounding out Utah Valley's top five were Rozlyn Stowe in 61st, Sophia Biesinger in 72nd, and Mazee Frentheway in 128th.
Following this week's meet, the Wolverines will have next week off before heading back to Indiana State to compete in the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational on Friday, Oct. 16.
