Wolverines Head to Southern California for Pair of Big West Matches

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley women's volleyball heads to Southern California for a pair of Big West matches this weekend, beginning Friday at UC Irvine before facing UC San Diego on Saturday night in La Jolla. The Wolverines will take on the Anteaters on Friday at 7 p.m. MT (6 p.m. PT) before wrapping up the road trip against the Tritons on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley dropped both matches last weekend. Olivia Gloeckner recorded 10 kills against UC Santa Barbara, while Alyvia Watkins added seven kills and seven total blocks in Thursday night's match.
 
Miley Thunstrom paced the Wolverines on Saturday with eight kills against Cal Poly, a team that has received votes in the AVCA Top 25 Poll multiple times this season. Lani Toutai also turned in one of her strongest performances from the service line, recording three aces on three consecutive serves.
 
SCOUTING THE ANTEATERS
UC Irvine enters the weekend with a 5-10 overall record and a 3-1 mark in Big West play.
 
Freshman Taylor Boice leads the Anteaters with 144 kills and 2.44 kills per set. Boice is the reigning Big West Freshman of the Week and is joined by Madison Triplett, who has totaled 135 kills and 2.29 kills per set.
 
Defensively, libero Whitney Wallace has earned Big West Defensive Player of the Week honors twice this season. Wallace ranks among the conference leaders with 240 digs and 4.14 digs per set as she chases Utah Valley's Toutai atop the league standings.
 
SCOUTING THE TRITONS
 UC San Diego enters the week at 7-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play under first-year head coach Spencer McLaughlin. The Tritons lead the Big West with 812 kills this season. Preseason All-Big West selection Molly McCluskey leads UC San Diego with 220 kills and 3.55 kills per set.
 
Ireland McNees, a Riverton, Utah, native, was recently named Big West Offensive Player of the Week and ranks among the team's leaders in several offensive categories.
 
UP NEXT
The Wolverines return home next week for a pair of Big West matches. Utah Valley hosts Long Beach State on Thursday, Oct. 15, before welcoming Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Oct. 17.
