OREM — Utah Valley women's soccer freshman forward Belle Sorensen has been named the Utah State of Sport High School Female Athlete of the Year, an honor recognizing top athletic achievement across the state of Utah.
Presented as part of the annual Governor's State of Sport Awards, the recognition celebrates excellence across high school, collegiate, professional, and Olympic and Paralympic sports. The awards were created by the Utah Sports Commission in partnership with the Governor's Office, with honorees selected by a nominating committee made up of Utah sports professionals and media members. This year's State of Sport Awards dinner will take place in April at Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
Sorensen signed with Utah Valley in November and joined the Wolverines early for the spring season after graduating high school ahead of schedule and enrolling at UVU.
"This is truly a special honor for Belle and we are extremely proud of her for this prestigious recognition," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "To be named as one of Utah's finest athletes across all sports is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She is accompanied on this list with some very impressive men and women."
A forward from Bountiful, Utah, Sorensen closed out one of the most decorated prep careers in recent state history. She was named the 5A Player of the Year in both 2024 and 2025 and helped lead Bountiful High School to the 2025 5A state championship, the program's first title since 2006 after multiple deep postseason runs in previous seasons.
Sorensen played a key role in the championship victory over Olympus, recording a goal and an assist as Bountiful rallied from a halftime deficit to secure the 2-1 win. She finished her four-year varsity career with 81 goals and 33 assists, earned all-state honors in each of her four seasons, and was widely regarded as one of the most dynamic offensive players in the state.
At the club level, Sorensen was a prolific scorer for La Roca FC from 2022–25, helping the club capture the Northwest Division ECNL U-18 conference title. She also competed on UYSA national and Far West regional championship teams in 2021.
Sorensen joins a Utah Valley program that has won four straight WAC regular-season championships. The Wolverines finished the 2025 season with a 14-5-3 overall record and claimed the WAC regular-season title with a 9-0-1 league mark. Utah Valley also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2025, marking the program's fifth all-time NCAA Tournament appearance. Sorensen joins a UVU squad that will make its debut season in 2026 in The Big West Conference.
Now enrolled at Utah Valley, Sorensen is training with the Wolverines during the spring season as she begins her collegiate career.
