OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University will send five wrestlers to Cleveland next week after it was announced the
Kael Bennie and
Jack Forbes both received at-large berths on Tuesday.
It will mark the third time in program history that the Wolverines have sent at least five wrestlers to nationals. The school record came in 2019 in Pittsburgh when Utah Valley had six qualifiers. The Wolverines also had five qualifiers in 2018, the last time the championships were held in Cleveland.
"I'm so excited for Kael and Jack earning at-large qualifications. The at-large committee saw their body of work from the whole year and rewarded them," head coach
Adam Hall said. "I'm glad that Jack gets to finish out his career at the NCAA championships and seeing Kael display his growth, not only from this season but over the last two years, has been exciting. This is a big statement for our staff and program in having the most qualifiers since 2019. We are riding five deep to Cleveland! Go Wolverines!"
Bennie (197 pounds) and Forbes (285 pounds) will join the three automatic qualifiers from last week's Big 12 Championships in
Haiden Drury,
David Evans and
Caleb Uhlenhopp. Evans finished third at 149 pounds, while Drury and Uhlenhopp were seventh and 141 and 184 pounds, respectively.
It will be the first appearance for all but Drury, who made his first trip to Nationals in 2022.
The brackets for the NCAA Championships will be released during the Selection Show on Wednesday at 6 p.m. MST on NCAA.com. The Championships will begin on Thursday, March 19 from Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
The five student-athletes give Utah Valley a total of 52 NCAA qualifiers during its 17 seasons of NCAA Division I postseason eligibility. The Wolverines have had six All-Americans in its wrestling history with
Terrell Barraclough becoming the sixth last season in Philadelphia.
