Pro Wolverines Kicking Off 2026 Seasons

3/5/2026 1:39:00 PM

Utah Valley has a trio of alumni kicking off their professional seasons in the coming weeks, two of which will be making their debuts with their first club.

Keegan Oyler and Omar Yehya will suit up for their first professional games on Saturday with AC Boise, as the USL League One debutantes play their inaugural match in the club's history in Florida against Sarasota Paradise. The match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. MT and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Jojea Kwizera will kick off his fifth professional season and his third with Rhode Island FC in just over a week against Sporting Jacksonville on March 14. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. MT kickoff, and will air on ESPN+.

Oyler signed with his hometown club just a few weeks ago after completing his collegiate career in Orem last fall. The 2025 season was a breakout year for the Meridian, Idaho native, registering a WAC-leading eight assists to earn second team All-Region and All-WAC honors. Oyler played a pivotal role in the team's defensive success, which was the best in the league over the last two seasons. Oyler locked down the left wing defensively, helping the team to a WAC-record six straight shutouts to open the season, and in 2024, helped the Wolverines to a league-leading 1.11 goals-against average.

Yehya inked his first pro contract back in January after finishing his collegiate career in 2024 as the WAC Golden Boot winner. As a senior, Yehya led the league in goals with 12 and added three assists to tie the program record for points in a season with 27. Following that season, Yehya was named first team All-Region, All-WAC, and Academic All-American. Last summer, Yehya played for USL League Two club Ballard FC, based out of Seattle, and helped lead them to a Western Conference title and a berth in the national championship game.

Kwizera finished his UVU career in 2021 with one of the best individual seasons in program history. Kwizera led the WAC and ranked fifth in the nation with 11 assists, pitched in five goals, and later became the program's first-ever MLS SuperDraft pick when he was selected 15th overall by CF Montréal in the 2022 draft. In June of 2024, Kwizera became the first-ever Utah Valley men's soccer player to be called up by a senior national team when he debuted with Rwanda. Since then, Kwizera has earned 15 caps and scored two goals with The Wasps, including the game-winner against Lesotho in his second appearance.

Utah Valley has two more active professionals who are currently free agents and looking for their next teams. Zahir Vazquez wrapped up his third pro season last fall with USL1 club Chattanooga Redwolves SC, helping the team to its best-ever finish. Former Wolverine Matt Gay recently finished his seventh NFL season playing for the Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers.
